TX Senate Passes Guns On Campus Bill
<br><br>
and update that ad john ida relax and
into us and it's regarding that texas
senate and the fact that they just
approved legislation that would allow
concealed carry on university campuses
in texas
now this would all be affect public
universities and that legislation is now
headed to the house where it is expected
to get complete approval now i'd jonah
and role of the great report on this he
is eighth
student from the university of texas at
austin
we have is video for you guys let's
watch and i will do a little commentary
several weeks ago and sewage university
i recorded unrepaired since the four
sixteen overseas to allow concealed
carry handguns
on university grounds now at the time
their efforts failed but since then the
effort is resampling point
last week republican state senator jeff
wentworth attached a version of the
campus carol university budget bill
sponsored by democrat unit separating
the amendment passed in separate was
forced to retract erbil costing by some
estimates several million dollars in
potential savings at six universities
each year
this was unfortunately only minor
setback for the republicans
when were the best national version of
the campus here it goes to another
higher education bill in this case espy
fifteen eighty one sponsored by
republican that went on the past texas
and i'm linden this week
no urgent action is needed the house
version of this bill's going to be voted
on either tuesday or wednesday this week
since i got three schools in texas have
compiled a list of the top swing votes
that need to be contacted col said he
made it personally
if you're still in texas i implore you
to act is our last chance to stop its if
you're outside of the state as he has
already reported similar bills are being
worked on a multiple states around the
country
now if this passes here in texas is only
going to embolden republicans and other
states
and let me be clear
republican governor rick perry has
already made clear to support for this
mission
if it passes the texas house this week
and will become law we need to make a
strong c
strong enough not only a stop in a house
this week but it's not just what works
and other republicans to drop it is an
issue in the future
there's been gyro and thank you for
watching alright graham in part by john
not only is he informing us on what's
happening in texas right now but he also
calls for action and ask students not
only in texas but in the united states
to
protest this bill and similar
legislation that's being proposed in
other states
currently use hot is the only state in
the u_s_ add that also allows concealed
carry on campus and anyone with
half a brain would it be able to realize
that giving college students the right
to carry guns on campus is not going to
make the campus any safer
you have to keep in mind that college
students are not necessarily the most
mature individuals to carry guns
there's a little partying going on a
little drinking going on
at the u usc campus there's little sex
on top of buildings going on designs
o_j_ at we are probably thanks on top of
buildings
but you know that's just one example of
you know the level of maturity of these
college students and i'm not saying i i
don't want this to be i'd generalization
i don't want u_s_ i think i'm making a
blanket statement but you have to keep
in mind that these republican
politicians
no way shape or form actually believe
that these guns are going to keep these
students safe
why do i say that
because these politicians are funded by
the n_r_a_
i said this before all say it again
we've done this or the foreign t weight
to you
by jen brewer who was shot down similar
legislation arizona said that as soon as
they rewrite the bill and make it clear
she will be willing to pass it now why
she willing to pass such you know un
lax legislation in arizona and wire
politicians in texas so willing to
passage lax tat or or relaxed me
legislation in taxes
the reason why they're willing to do
that is because the n_r_a_ funds them
the n_r_a_ is protected
under on
laws in the united states so they aren't
you know required to share information
about how much money they're giving to
politician so we don't know the exact
dollar amount that they're getting
politicians however the release grades
for each specific politician is the
n_r_a_ great and abt senator jet jeff
wentworth the one who offered this bill
in taxes
hedonic a plus rating
okay why do you think you've got an a
plus rating
because he's the n_r_a_'s bitch
that's why
okay so this this is all about money
jeffrey wentworth doesn't think that
it's going to keep the student safe
let's keep it real
now when i left is that the republicans
had a hard time passing this as a
stand-alone bill
they had to attach it
to a budget bill to get you know the
work done okay so they did you get the
work done in the senate it will get
approval on the house and you know as
uh... jada kerala said it's just going
to set an example for other states and
for other republicans throughout the
country and embolden them to do
something similar and try to pass
similar legislation i can't wait to see
what the consequences of the of this
legislation will be with the
consequences of this soon to be law will
be
because i'd errant you it's not going to
keep students say
Fair Use & Libraries | Interview with David Carlson (Texas A&M)
within really just a few weeks of
being there presented on my desk for
my review and approval
was a revision of our copyright policy
that they had obviously been working on
for the last several months I
gather
and I took a look at it and I've done, as
you know, some work previously in my
previous position with
an explication of the Code and its
meaning and teaching people about
how to apply it and I I took a look at
this policy and and and it seemed
to be at several levels
not at all applying to the kinds of
new principles that I knew we were
trying to
enunciate and the principles that we were trying to pursue
so I drew upon that
experience from my previous position and
contacted all of you
and gracious enough to have to
come and help us
<br><br>
essentially do what I think of as
sort of the the second generation of the
Code work
which is basically to take this
wonderful theoretical framework and
principles
and begin to actually apply it to put in
an action and policy
and I really think that this sense of
liberation was really a reflection on the
fact
that we have all labored under these
assumptions if you will and these pretexts
about how to apply Fair Use that we've
all known from the very beginning
were rather artificial and didn't really
apply Fair Use very well and required us
to be sort of not particularly good
in enforcing policies and
procedures that we knew weren't really
reflective of the principles we were trying to
enforce anyway
and so i think it was there was a
real sense of relief that we're
we're finally able to take the
principles that we believe in and be
able to apply them in a policy was
something that i think was a
really a relief for everyone and a
real
joy to be able to
to work and apply
the legal context in which it it
presents itself
the foundations it has really, we
found, went a great
a long long way towards working with
legal counsel who are
essential partners in developing an
application really carried a lot of
weight with them in terms of knowing
that the the the applications and the
the risk that that is being talked
about on the part of the university was
was well-based and well-grounded
and pleased to say that as a
result of the discussion
with everyone involved
we were able to take the
principles and that were outlined in the
Code in the concepts
and this is, I think, a great thing about
them about the code and how it's written
is it's a really nice
theoretical orientation or context that
you're then able to take
and apply it to a campus situation in very real terms and, for us, that worked
extremely well so we had all that
context of theory in context and
legal background precedent
and being able to put into application
on campus with legal counsel press
president participating
was extremely helpful and and made
it work
