University of Texas at Austin Honor Code
At the University of Texas at Austin,
the honor code is one of our proudest traditions,
representing a set of principles that unites
each and every one of us as Longhorns.
As a student at the University of Texas at
Austin,
I shall abide by the core values of the University
and uphold academic integrity.
We believe the honor code is a critical piece
of our experience as Longhorns.
And remember, as you navigate your four years
on the Forty Acres,
honor the horns and live by the code.
You will likely find yourself in a situation
in which you need to apply the honor code.
For example, if you see a student using unauthorized
aid on a quiz or test,
such as texting a friend for answers or using
hidden notes, you need to tell a TA or a professor.
That is a violation of the honor code.
Always remember, cheating diminishes the value
of your degree.
You may find yourself writing a lab report
or a research paper
and see that someone else has perfectly written
what you want to include in your report.
Remember to use your own words and cite your
sources,
otherwise you will have plagiarized someone
else's work and broken the honor code.
If you are unsure, it's always better to include
a citation than not.
You may find that some classes have a designated
student-run Facebook page that you can join.
While these can be useful tools for you, they
can also have unintended consequences.
For example, if students use these groups
to provide assistance to each other
on assignments without permission from the
professor, this is considered collusion and
violates the honor code.
Remember, if you're ever unsure, ask your
professor or TA first.
Join in as together we read the student honor
code aloud
and pledge to uphold its ideals and values.
As a student of the University of Texas at
Austin,
I shall abide by the core values of the University
and uphold academic integrity.

of Undergraduate Studies.
I hope this video has given you a lot to think
about.
A strong honor code is a hallmark of a university
of the first class with a student body of

the first class.
Take the new honor code as seriously as anything
you believe in.
Embrace the honor code. It's yours.
