Psychology Degree at Texas A

Psychology Degree at Texas A&M University in San Antonio, TX

I work for one of the largest educational
assessment corporations in the world.
Um, I'd like to do research in nutrition and
development.
Employers have told us that psychology majors
have great critical thinking skills. What
we do in psychology programs is we give them
a lot of research experience, so that they
can learn to problem solve in various situations.
And this can help students in a variety of
different fields. Not just psychology.
Um, I think the program is really great as
far as smaller classrooms, you get more interaction
with the teachers, which is, you know, why
they're there for you.
I think the student -- teacher ratio is fantastic
for students. The class sizes are pretty small,
you know, 10, 20, 25 in a class. There's a
lot of one on one action with the professors,
a lot of one on one time working with the
professors. I get to know my students really
well. We spend a lot of time together.
The professors hold symposiums here. They
work with their students in classroom and
out of classroom. They are available by email,
by phone, they have long office hours. They
do whatever they can in order to make sure
that you succeed.
We are doing a psychology club fundraiser.
What we do, is we try to raise money, every
year, for our, our annual trip to SWAPA, which
the Southwestern Psychological Association
Convention.
We've give our students a lot of different
opportunities. Several of them have presented
at the Southwestern Psychological Association.
The psych department is very active in research.
We do a lot of presentations at local conferences
as well as the national conferences; and so
we like to bring our students with us whenever
we can.
You get a lot of real world experience, and
you also get to network, mingle with uh, people
you may never otherwise meet in your lifetime.
And it's a very fun experience.
Because it's a growing campus, you really
get an opportunity to be involved directly
in the day to day activities. You get to um,
have a real impact on the future of the university.
And then you also have the opportunity to
work very closely with instructors which you
maybe wouldn't get a larger university.
We have a lot, a lot of variety of students
here. Who, some who are going straight through,
some who are returning to school after some
time out. So, we get to know all of them,
get to know their stories and they get to
know us really well.
We do cater to transfer students. We are a
transfer university so all of our students
are transfer students and we do tend to take
more credits than a lot of other universities
do.
As a vet, I found this to be a very enjoyable
and rewarding experience. It was very simple
to get in. Once I came in to actually apply
for Texas A&M here in San Antonio, my benefits
were, were easily transferable and they did
everything for me.
I love school. I love being here.

I love going in the classroom and I am very, very
excited about my career, I mean,
I am dedicated to accounting I believe in what we're doing, and
that we are the score keepers, we do have to learn to do it right,
and I love working with the students, keeps me
young. Mainly the junior level class
is what I teach. I'll teach the intermediate classes
and the second intermediate class probably is the most difficult class they
take because
most of the students are preparing to take the CPA exam
and a lot of this information is on that exam. Our classes have to be approved by

the Texas State Board.
If they are not approved by the Texas State Board, our students can't
sit for the CPA exam in the state of Texas. One thing about our faculty we're
all student oriented. We want our students to succeed. We just have a good department
altogether, all of us work together, not just accounting. One of the things my
students have commented on this the fact
that it's really good to have someone
that's been out in the real world. This
is the secret: when you go out and you're
working in the accounting field
a client's not going to come to you with something that's in that textbook and I'm going
open the textbook there's the answer. Oh yeah, and this is the solution.
You have to
understand the concept well enough to look at the alternatives and decide on which

one would be the best. Texas A&M University-Commerce is a very good place
for student a student to come to school. We do want our students to succeed and we do work
hard at that.
